Today's focus was on careers . . . resumes, networking, internships, job searches, etc. Several different speakers, including alumni, career counselors, and social media experts, all touched on various helpful hints for keeping organized throughout the process. But, one concept that stuck out for me--mostly because I heard it over and over yesterday as well--was related to what you need or want, and what you can offer in a networking situation. This applies not only to people in the job search, but also those in other stages of their careers.
It boils down to this: people who know you don't need anything are much more likely to meet with you.
What this means to me, is network early and often (before you really, really need something), and don't be desperate. Good advice.
