Gaining a Global Perspective

I am totally blown away by the diversity of the students in just my one little section of the Graziadio School of Business and Management communications workshop. In my group, we have a girl from Mongolia, and an ex-NFL player, and everyone in between, from every corner of the world, with every kind of background you can imagine. It has been a great opportunity to explore various cultural differences, breakdown barriers, redefine expectations, and develop unlikely friendships.

While most people do not have at their workplace disposal such a range of brilliant minds from all over the world, there are still ways to gain global exposure. To translate some of the activities we did today into relevant, applicable and digestible (remember RAD?) advice, I would recommend stretching perspectives by visiting a current and reputable news source (e.g. The New York Times, The Economist, The Wall Street Journal, The Onion . . . well maybe not.), and challenging yourself to take a few minutes to read an article of international scope--something you would never normally read. This will give you a small taste of what I learned at school today, and perhaps even change your cultural outlook.
