The Business Book Section

I have a summer reading list. Though I'm not required to read all of the suggested books, it's recommended that I choose a few that interest me in order to get a head start on my business education. So, I took my list to Borders (usually I go to a local bookseller, but their coupons are just too hard to resist!), and headed to the business book section . . .

I think I perused titles for about 30 seconds before the stacks became a blur of outrageous claims to revolutionize your company. Without recommendations, I don't know how one would be able to sift through the garbage to find legitimate reading.

Even with my list, I'm not totally convinced that what I'm about to read is anything more than a used car sales pitch dressed up as a bestseller. I'm sorry, but with all due respect to the author, how can I not think of Office Space when the title of his last book is What the CEO Wants You to Know.

But, I'm giving Bossidy and Charan and Execution: The Discipline of Getting Thing Done a chance. You can find me at Flinger's, getting grease from my jalapeno poppers all over the pages. :)

  1. Oooh, I think I need to revise this totally uninformed post. So, I'm sitting in my Dad's office the other day, doing some work, and my book is on the table . . . he says, "Oh, I have that book." I say, "Yeah? It's super boring." he says, "Well, it's one of the top 10 business books."

Oops. Good thing I'm going to business school, because I clearly have a lot to learn. :)
