I am reading Yvon Chouinard's book, Let My People Go Surfing, for a course in ethical leadership. It's full of fascinating and alarming information. But, as I wrap up the final summary, I am amazed to learn that 90 percent of what people buy at the mall ends up in the garbage within 60 to 90 days. Pretty sick.
As it was, I was feeling like my personal consumption was a little extreme, and have started purging my closets and drawers. I wonder if I could commit to only buying second-hand? It would be tough, but probably really fun, economical, and of course, environmentally-friendly.
