Today (and most of yesterday) I learned how to turn my Mac into a PC. Were it not for the fact that data analysis requires a Windows operating system to run certain Excel programs, I would never need a PC. However, as it's turning out to be somewhat useful for this particular application, I've reconciled myself to the PC experience.
In short, what I've learned from this is that Mac users can get all the functionality of a PC without having to compromise too much of life with Apple. A simple installation of Parallels Desktop and Windows software yields all the benefits of PC ownership without the pitfalls. And when you've done what you need to do on your virtual machine, you can simply quit the application and return to Mac bliss.
*It took me most of the Labor Day holiday and the better part of a bottle of wine to get all the software installed myself. If I had to do it over again, I'd save myself the headache and spend a little extra money to have a tech-savvy person get everything dialed in for me.
